Raukawa

Raukawa is an iwi located in the central North Island. It operates a number of commercial and social initiatives made possible by a 2012 Treaty of Waitangi settlement with the New Zealand Government.

The challenge was to bring together the disparate organisations (settlement trust, charitable trust, iwi development trust) that operate under the Raukawa umbrella, into one unified brand identity system.

Brand Identity

Raukawa has a well-known and unique carving style that features prominently on important whare and Māori artworks. It presented an opportunity for the logo and visual system as a whole to adopt a distinctive “Raukawa” look and feel.

Custom Typeface

We used the carving style as the inspiration for not just the logo and graphics, but also two custom designed typefaces that enabled us to ingrain the carving style into every aspect of the brand.
